Alleen zijn is de ultieme werkelijkheid. We komen alleen, we gaan alleen; en tussen deze twee perioden van alleen zijn creëren we allerlei soorten relaties en gevechten, enkel om onszelf te bedriegen – omdat we ook in het leven alleen blijven. Maar alleen zijn is niet iets om verdrietig over te zijn: het is iets om je over te verheugen. Er zijn twee woorden: het woordenboek zal zeggen dat ze dezelfde betekenis hebben, maar de existentie geeft hen geheel tegenstrijdige betekenissen. Het ene woord is eenzaamheid en het andere woord is alleen zijn. Ze zijn niet synoniem.
Eenzaamheid is een negatieve staat, zoals duisternis. Eenzaamheid betekent dat je iemand mist; je bent leeg, en je bent bang in dit uitgestrekte universum. Alleen zijn heeft een totaal verschillende betekenis: het betekent niet dat je iemand mist, het betekent dat je jezelf hebt gevonden.
