RietveldTV by Eunkyo Kang: Clue. Mirror. Facade.

A musician finally revived music from 1400 years ago. The notes were gone, but the moon remained. In that distant reflection, something lost was found again.

Meanwhile, some kind of real-time is presented. When a shelter is built for lies, do they transform into truth? In a dream, there were no bodies, no need for words. Without a medium, there was no place for questions.

Clue. Mirror. Facade. comments on the role of mediation that constantly vibrates our reality, while also exploring the act of "belief," as both truth and lies emerge from the interaction between the two. As we navigate through layers, we are left to wonder if truth itself can ever be fully grasped, or if it is simply a reflection of what we choose to see.

Eunkyo Kang is an artist who works across various media, including installation, video, new media, sound, and performance. Her work explores themes of newness, time, senses, phenomena, and conceptual spaces.

Note from the curatorial team:

Eunkyo Kang was chosen by the curatorial team after engaging with her immersive installations that challenge the boundaries of reality and questions of clarity and transparency, highlighting the delicate blending of senses as an integral part of worldbuilding. This work engages with the idea of medium/mediation, where truth and lies intersect, and where there’s still room for belief.

This episode was produced for the RietveldTV season 24/25: RatveldTV: Two Truths and a Lie.

RietveldTV

RietveldTV is Gerrit Rietveld Academie’s monthly TV show. It is broadcast every last Sunday at 10pm by SALTO1 and afterwards forever online on Vimeo. Every month an alum is invited to use the set frame of a 12-minute episode for the development of a new moving image work. Since 2023, every academic year a curatorial team consisting of four students from different departments and academic years is found through an Open Call. The team is guided in their collective process by Public & Projects and a RietveldTV coordinator who is also a Rietveld alum.

Dit programma wordt gemaakt door Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
